How to check a factory's halal certificate

JAKIM publishes a public Halal Directory through the myeHALAL portal. You can search by state and category, then open a company's full record.

What a record shows

Each company record displays the name, address, state, phone, fax, email, website, certificate reference number, the responsible officer, and a list of certified products with their brands and an expiry date for each product.

The most common misunderstanding

The company record carries no validity date. Expiry attaches to the product, not to the factory.

So the question "how long is this factory valid for" has no single answer. What exists is: this factory is listed, and each of its products has its own expiry date.

What absence from the list means

JAKIM's directory lists certification that is still valid. Expired or withdrawn certificates drop off it.

But not finding a company does not necessarily mean it holds no certificate. It may be listed under a different category, trading under a name different from its registered one, or newly registered. The safest approach is to search on a partial name and check more than one category.

Reading the reference number

Reference numbers look like JAKIM.700-2/3/1. The digit after 2/3/ denotes the certification scheme. A company can hold more than one scheme at once — for example both product certification and contract-manufacturing certification.
