Methodology
Every figure on this site comes from one source: JAKIM's Halal Directory. This page sets out what is captured, how it is organised, and what the records do not cover.
How the directory is built
1. Captured from JAKIM's records
JAKIM's Halal Directory (myeHALAL) is captured in full and stored with a date. No factory is added by invitation, payment or submission. A factory that is not in JAKIM's records is not here.
2. Classified by product, not by code
JAKIM's category codes are broad: “cosmetics & personal care” includes an edible-oils plant whose certified list is margarine and bar soap. The certified product names are read instead. A factory belongs to a category when at least five of its products fall inside it and those make up at least 40% of its certified range.
3. Ordered by countable figures
Sorting and rankings use figures countable in the official record: how many products a plant has certified, and how many distinct brands appear on its certificates. No score is assigned.
4. Criteria published with every list
Every list states its screen in the same article, so it can be re-run against JAKIM's records for the same answer.
5. Every figure carries a date
JAKIM's directory changes as certificates are issued, renewed and expire. Each page states the capture its numbers came from.
What the records do not cover
JAKIM's records describe certification, not capability. They state nothing about capacity, minimum order quantity, lead time, price or quality systems. Two figures also need reading with care. A certified-product count of zero means the plant holds contract-manufacturing certification and produces under its clients' certificates — 222 plants are in that position. And “brands certified” counts every brand appearing on a factory's certificates, including its own labels.
Independence
No factory can pay to be listed, removed, or moved. Inclusion follows JAKIM's records and the published screen. Editorial opinion is stated separately from the data and signed by a named writer.
Updates and corrections
When a fresh capture is loaded, every table on the site is regenerated from it, so figures cannot drift apart between one page and another. If you find a record that is wrong, tell us — but check it against JAKIM's Halal Directory first, because the official record is the authority and our copy may be older than it.
