JAKIM lists the foreign halal certification bodies it recognises in a document gazetted under the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011.
The current list takes effect 30 January 2026 and contains 94 certification bodies across 47 countries.

Why this matters to a factory
If you import an ingredient claimed as halal, your supplier's certificate only means anything to JAKIM if the body that issued it appears on this list. A certificate from an unrecognised body does not carry halal status through to your product.
This is a common cause of audit failure, and it is checkable in advance — the list is free and public.
The figure people still quote is wrong
Many Malaysian articles — including some quoting a ministerial statement from 2024 — still say "88 bodies in 49 countries". That was the May 2024 list. JAKIM withdrew recognition from several bodies with effect from 19 February 2025.
The current figure is 94 / 47. If you see 88/49 in a document dated 2026, that document is copying an old source.
Two contradictions inside JAKIM's own sources
The document's index states 47 countries but lists 48 country/region headings — most likely because Taiwan is listed as a region. And the halal.gov.my page says appointments are valid for two years, while the PDF's own appendix says three. We report both and do not pick one.
